Card Info

Title: Fire a
Cost:

2 coins

Quantity:

x1

Play:

Play before your first invasion.

Description:

Choose an opponent's territory and roll a 6-sided die. Destroy fanboys and/or Heroes equal to the number rolled.

Notes

Paula may seem sweet and innocent on the outside, but a fire burns within her spirit. The PSI powers in EarthBound know no limit, and contradictory to the name of the game, they are not bound by land, air, or beyond. This makes Fire a one of the most flexible cards in the game, and Fanboys should fear Paulas wrath, as there is nowhere they can hide safely.

The card art combines a sprite of Paula, the Fire attack animation, and a reddish, fire-like battle background. Its a bit of an abstract representation, but it gets the point across. All layers are from Earthbound, known as Mother 2 in Japan.

Previous Versions

The original Fire a cards specified Zebes and Great Fox territories, a role which would be later filled by Bottle Rocket. These cards were shuffled around for thematic and balancing purposes. The original Fire a cards featured Paula as illustrated in the wonderful EarthBound Players Guide by Ninendo. Behind her, the flames are actually a personified fire elemental that can be seen here, though I clearly had access to an earlier image, without the foreground text.
