Notes

The Star is one of Kirby’s default moves, which he can perform without having copied any other ability. It is actually one of his oldest abilities, predating the Copy capability, itself. The beauty of the Star attack is that Kirby can turn anything into a projectile, from random debris to bricks he sucks out of foundations. With the Star card, Kirby becomes the assassin of the skies, and while he may not be as powerful as King Dedede, a well-executed Star strike can wipe out legions of defenders.

The card art shows Kirby relaxing under some palm trees on Ice Cream Island from Kirby’s Adventure. This NES game established two important things about Kirby. First, since the NES was not limited to the monochrome palette of the Game Boy, Kirby was defined as pink. Second, it was the first game where Kirby could copy enemy abilities. However, he still had his trusty star attack.

Previous Versions

Originally called Power Star, it applied to either land or air territories. This was changed to be more specific to the Kirby Hero, and Swift from the Pokemon Hero deck was changed to affect both land and air territories, as the swift attack could damage Pokemon, even if they were flying, in Pokemon Red & Blue. The original card art showed what is actually the Warp Star trophy from Super Smash Bros Melee.

Sisu! You make me blush! Or you would, if I weren’t acutely aware that I’m not your pe0;ty22≵ But I am extremely flattered nevertheless. As you are aware, the fandom goes both ways!
