Notes

When the first Banzai Bill bangs onto the screen in Super Mario World, it was hard not to gasp at the things girth. In War of the Fanboys, Bullet Bill is a weapon so powerful that it can start an arms race in an effort to be the player who controls it. Bullet Bill has the power to shoot down the Great Fox, destroying everything on it and freeing those who lived in fear of its wrath for the duration of the game. For some it is a liberator, and others, a bane. And more, if the Great Fox is not in orbit to intercept it, the Bullet Bill continues like an interstellar nuclear missile, whereupon it brings fiery Armageddon to planet Zebes.

The artwork shows the earliest appearance of Banzai Bill, (an extra-large Bullet Bill), as he appears in Super Mario World, which Nintendo bundled with the SNES. Banzai Bill wouldnt appear again until the release of New Super Mario Bros, over 15 years later.

Clarifications

What does it mean to remove the Great Fox from play?

The Great Fox auxiliary board cannot be used after the Bullet Bill card has been successfully played. No player can invade it or control its territories from that point forth. If it helps you remember, you can flip the Great Fox board over so that it cant be seen.

Does the Bullet Bill card remove Zebes from play?

No. If the Great Fox is already removed from play when Bullet Bill is launched, it will instead strike Zebes. Because Zebes has much more mass than the Great Fox, it cant be destroyed as easily. Instead, Bullet Bill only destroys all life on Zebes, leaving the planet intact for anyone who wants to come in and assume control.

If theres only one Bullet Bill card, how can the Great Fox already be removed from play?

The Bullet Bill card can be fished out of the discard pile by Lakitu or retrieved by certain Earthbound cards. Its actually possibly to use the Bullet Bill a total of 5 times in one game.

Previous Versions

Bullet Bill has always destroyed Great Fox and has always been the most expensive card in the game. The only difference is that Bullet Bill now has multiuse abilities, so that the card doesnt lose all purpose the moment Great Fox is destroyed. The implementation of this feature has long been planned in WotF, and it was even considered that striking Zebes with Bullet Bill would split the planet apart, either along the equator of lava or along the border of all three regions. This would mean that the three Zebes regions would no longer be adjacent, and could only be invaded through their respective landing zones. Artwork shows the Banzai Bill sprite as it appears in Super Mario World.
