Card Info

Title: Fire Flower
Cost:

2 coins

Quantity:

x1

Play:

Play before your first invasion.

Description:

Choose a land territory you occupy. You may replace a 6-sided attack die with an 8-sided attack die when launching any invasion from that territory, as long as you do not exceed 3 total 8-sided attack dice.

Notes

In the land of 2D platformers, ranged attacks reign supreme. Grabbing a Fire Flower meant shooting down a Koopa Paratroopa without the hassle of timing your jumps. Plant the Fire Flower card in one of your territories for a Fanboy to grab, and it will give him the strength of a Hero.

War of the Fanboys 3.0 originally featured 2 of these cards, as there were 2 in the previous versions, but one of them was cut, either to make room for Peach’s Castle or the 1-up Mushroom. Unfortunately, the alternate artwork, which featured Mario and a Fire Flower from Smash Bros, has been lost. The remaining artwork shows the Fire Flower from Super Mario World. Historically, Fire Flower has been Mario’s most offense-oriented powerup. This offensive power is reflected in WotF.

Previous Versions

The thermostat on Fire Flower has been kicked back a couple notches. When it was called Flower Power, the card allowed all of the 6-sided attack dice to be swapped out with 8-siders. This almost guaranteed three 8-sided dice, which made for a nearly unstoppable invasion force. Another problem with the card is that the wording doesn’t explicitly explain what to do if there are Heroes on the territory, which means players could end up with more than three 8-sided dice, which has always been against the rules in WotF. The artwork was a picture of the Fire Flower trophy in Super Smash Bros Melee.
