Title: Epona
Cost:

2 coins

Quantity:

x2

Play:

Play at the end of your turn.

Description:

You may take either an additional attack phase or make an additional redeployment.

Notes

Epona can not only carry Link around the various regions of Hyrule with speed, but can charge him into battle. This card offers the best of both these features. The Epona card can either ease the logistics of war by riding in additional reinforcements, or it can bring them in for a sudden onslaught after your Fanboys have moved into position.

The first card shows Link riding on Epona in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3d, the remake of OoT that Nintendo released for the Nintendo 3DS. Ocarina of Time was Link’s first encounter with the equine, and she transported impatient Fanboys with speed. This represents the redeployment half of the card. The second image is from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. In Twilight Princess, Link can wield his sword and duel opponents while riding Epona, who acts as his warhorse. The game represents the attack phase half of the card.

Clarifications

Epona says to play at the end of my turn. Does this mean that I can end my turn, terminating card effects like Sheild that last for the turn’s duration, use Epona, and then attack without the card effects?

No. Epona does not give you a second turn. Strictly speaking, “Play at the end of your turn,” means play after Phase 6: Redistribute Fanboys, at which point your turn would have typically been over.

Previous Versions

When my friends and I used to play War of the Fanboys 1.0 in high school, we allowed players to make unlimited redeployments at the end of their turn, meaning you were allowed to move any number of units from any number of territories and place them onto any number of other territories, so long as there was a safe path between territories for travel. We created Epona to give you another attack phase after the infinite redeployments. When building the rulebook for WotF 3.0, redeployments were stricter and players were given only a single redeployment. This added more strategy to the game, but demanded a bit more of the Epona card.

This card used original artwork by an artist who goes by Thunderbird. I traced the thumbnail with Tineye and found the uncropped imaged on a German Zelda site called zfans.de. The artwork can be seen here.
