Card Info

Title: Fairy
Cost:

0 coins

Quantity:

x1

Play:

Play when an opponent defeats the last remaining fanboys and Heroes on any land territory you occupy.

Description:

Before the opponent captures and moves any fanboys or Heroes onto the territory, reinforce it with 3 additional fanboys.

Notes

When Link is defeated, its game over and Ganon reigns supreme. But if he’s lucky enough to have a fairy with him, he is immediately revived for another shot at saving the princess. Similarly, in War of the Fanboys, the Fairy revives a fallen territory and restores some health so that it might defend again against a powerful opponent. Sometimes a little boost can become a final stand.

This card shows Link standing back up in Ocarina of Time, as a fairy circles around to heal him. Players could use Fairies manually at any time by selecting and using a bottle that contains one, or instantly by running into one that’s floating around on screen, but just hanging into one of the little creatures usually provided the biggest payoff. Plus, it’s a great surprise for players who might have forgotten they had one and then found themselves outwitted by an enemy AI.

Previous Versions

When Fairy was first designed, it was fairly generic, but it was an important step for War of the Fanboys to become a fresh and independent game. Fairy was the first card to be given the “Play any time during the game” feature, which gave players more freedom with the card in a way that hadn’t been used before. Though the usage description would be changed in WotF 3.0 to something more specific, the play at any time still exists in some cards.
